Chrome launch iOS and Android Apps in next month?
According to reports, Google is allowing developers to convert Chrome
apps to iOS and Android and could start coming as early as next month.
Chrome apps could arrive on Android and iOS sooner than expected, as it seems Google has figured out a way to port apps to mobiles and hopes to release a beta version as soon as next month.
Google has been working on compatibility for Chrome apps using open
source Apache Cordova tools. It allows developers to modify apps, Google
can allow them to do the same with mobile devices by using Cordova
plugins that can mirror and replace the relevant APIs.
It's not clear when the tools will be done, but it might not take long for developers to get started. "We hope to have something in beta form in January," wrote developer advocate Joe Marini, just two days ago.
While Google is being tight lipped and wouldn't comment on the system, though earlier this year Google software engineer Michal Mocny gave a full-fledged presentation about the idea.
