BlackBerry Halts Rollout of BBM to Android and iOS Amidst Issues

BlackBerry has issued an announcement that it will be halting the deployment of BBM for Android and iOS for the foreseeable future.

After what seems like years of anticipation, the rollout of BlackBerry Messenger for Android and iOS has not gone well. Before the Canadian company could roll out the popular messaging system to Android, the Play Store was flooded with fake apps leaving the company with the dilemma of trying o get them deleted before releasing the real one.

While the iOS app was officially launched this morning, it has now been pulled due to the servers being overwhelmed by 1.1 million users trying to access the servers. It seems while BlackBerry was trying to clean up the Play Store situation an early build leaked out to the world and that led to the overwhelming of the hardware.

For the time being the app is being withheld from both operating systems and there is no word as to when they will return. If you are running the unreleased Android build BlackBerry will be disabling it at some point so don’t be too surprised if it stops working soon.

This has not been a good week for BlackBerry as it has announced it will be cutting 40 percent of its workforce, and now it’s long promised cross-platform release of its popular instant messaging system being met with less than stellar results, things are sure to be tense in Waterloo this evening.

No word as of yet as to when we can expect to see BBM return to the iOS app store or Google Play.
