Tesco Hudl Tablet Launching in the U.K. on Sept. 30

The Tesco grocery store chain in the U.K. has officially jumped into the tablet race with the announcement today of its new Hudl device.
Following rumors from last month that Tesco was going to release its own tablet, the grocery store chain held a press event in London today to take the wraps off of it. While it is clearly an entry level device, it isn’t that bad when you look over the specs. While no manufacturer of the processor was listed, it still clocks in at a 1.7GHz quad-core processor, Android 4.2.2, 16GB of onboard storage with MicroSD support up to 32GB, Wi-Fi, GPS, Bluetooth 4.0, Micro-HDMI out and all with a 7-inch 1440 x 900 HD display.
While there are clearly better tablets on the market, the allure here will be the price. The base price is £119 (approx. $190 USD), but Tesco shoppers with a Clubcard can pick it up for under £100 ($160) using Clubcard Boost. If you’ve been looking for a cheap tablet to use around the house or work, and you live where there is a Tesco store, you may have just found your solution.
The main drive of the tablet is to get customers deeper into the Tesco digital ecosystem, but with full access to the Google Play store, you’re still picking up a decent Android device it would seem.
The Tesco Hudl will be available starting Sept. 30 at over 1,000 locations through out the Tesco chain.
